TUBERCULOSIS APPEAL
More Than £lOOO Collected
With boxes, still to come in from Riccarton, Papanui and Sydenham the total collected in the annual street appeal yesterday for the Canterbury and Westland Branch of the Tuberculosis Association stood at £lOOO. When the money from the unreturned. boxes is. added, the final .amount is expected to be between £lOOO and £llOO.
This total is approximately the same as was collected last year. “We are delighted with the response and the money will be used for the various applications that the association receives.” said the president (Mr C. A. Rattray) last evening. Two hundred and thirty collectors were on city and suburban streets from 7.30 a.m. until 5 p.m. and this was the same number of- collectors who assisted last year. The individual record collection for the day was £lB collected by a man who stationed himself on the corner of Colombo and Cashel streets.
Mr Rattray said that he would like to thank the many firms who assisted in the appeal and also the individuals who collected during the day.
