CORAL CHIEF INJURED
Coral Chief will be out of action for at least six months. The Riccarton-trained five-year-old was lame after contesting the Waimairi High-weight on the first day of the New Zealand Cup meeting. An X-ray later revealed that he bad cracked a sesamoid bone in two places. Coral Chief is the third member of P. H. Jones’s teem to be put out of action because of a fractured leg within a year. Last December Tauntress fractured a sesamoid bone during the running of the Dunedin Cup. It finished her race career but she was saved for a brood mare. Early last month Carrageen fractured a leg in a training gallop at Riccarton and had to be destroyed.
