Methodist Plans ’ In Auckland

A nine-storey office block will be built at the comer of Queen and Wakefield streets by the Methodist Central Mission Trustees.

The block and a church to be built alongside it will cost more than £600,000. The trustees are building the block to provide ftinds in perpetuity, for maintaining the increasing work of the mission in Auckland. Contracts for the construction are expected to fee let early next year.

The block will be completely air-conditioned. All windows will have double glass to keep out noise, and Venetian blinds will be fitted in the space between the two panes. More than 50,000 square feet of office floor space will be available.

A second phase of the plan includes an enlarged youth centre on the site and special provision for work among elderly people. Two lifts, two staircases and heating, plumbing and ventilation ducts will rise the full height of the structure. A bank and four shops, including a coffee bar, will be on the ground floor.
