LONDON STOCK EXCHANGE

Effect Of Bid For Ford

(Special Correspondent N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, November 17.

The Stock Exchange naturally has been, dominated this week by news of the Ford takeover bid but apart from a sympathetic rise in other motor-car shares, most sections of the market have been neglected. Disappointing October trade figures had a dampening effect on most equity markets and on the gilt-edged section as well. Once again there was not a great deal of selling, but with buyers still very selective in their choice of shares, on occasions they did put i.i an appearance. Most prices moved lower. There was a certain amount of buying in some industrial sections on the theory that Ford money might lead to heavy investment in other equities but elsewhere the dull note apparent since the new account opened has remained unchanged.
