SPONSORING JUNIORS
Technical Club’s Withdrawal
The Technical Old Boys Club was refusing to shoulder its responsibility in fostering junior cricket in Christchurch, it was claimed at last evening’s meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Cricket Association.
. Mr C. G. Snook, for the association’s junior advisory board, reported that some teams entered by the Technical Old Boys club in the junior competitions had failed to appear for their matches. The secretary of the club, said Mr Snook, had said that the teams were entered by his club’s delegate and without authority from the club itself, which now wished to withdraw all the teams. “I take it from that the Technical club is not prepared to sponsor any teams at all,” said Mr Snook.
The sponsoring of these junior teams, said Mr C. F. Collins, was laid down as a prerequisite of entry into the association’s senior competition. However, it was not intended that dubs other than senior clubs should be compelled to sponsor these teams. It appeared that the association would have to make alternative arrangements for the boys who would have come under the Technical club’s care, he said. On the motion of Mr F. F. Dawson, it was decided that the Technical dub should be written to, the letter to say that, although the dub was not bound to sponsor these teams, there was nevertheless an obligation to do so.
