Freezing Season Starts Slowly
If there was a period of dry north-westerly conditions the freezing works would be glutted with stock for killing before Christmas. At present there was a slow start to the season, said the secretary of the Canterbury Freezing Workers’ Union (Mr T. Handisides) yesterday. The works had been staffed in anticipation of a steady flow of stock coming in at the beginning of the season, but some works had not been operating full time and as a result the men had not been receiving the wages they expected. This was because of the weather conditions, Mr Handisides said.
