Mr G: -E. BY- Wood, former Government Statistician, has been elected an honorary life fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, it was announced at the conference of Commonwealth statisticians, at present being held in Wellington. He is the first New Zealander to receive this honour. —(PA.)

Lord Middleton, a Knight of the Garter and a member of one of the oldest families in Britain, arrived in Auckland by air on Saturday for a month’s tour of New Zealand. His business interests include the Yorkshire Insurance Company, Ltd., of which he has been chairman since 1935. He is accompanied by Mr H. T. Silversides, general manager of the Yorkshire Insurance, and Mrs Silversides.—(PA.)

The Rev. G. E. Dillard, at present minister of St. ■ Steven’s, Lower Hutt, has been appointed director of television and broadcasting for the Presbyterian Church.—(PA.)
