T.E.A.L. Electras
Sir, —May I ask who is to pay for the modification to the T.E-A.L, Electras? Is the already too generous taxpayer to subsidise the Lockheed Corpoiration’s experiments? Is it any financial blow to the directors who recommend the purchase of these aircraft? Perhaps Mr Connolly held an inquiry on the wrong aircraft. Why did they overlook the British aircraft, such as the Britannia, Vickers Vanguard or Comet?—Yours, etc., HIGH WING LOADING.
November 3, 1960. [The general maneger of T.E.A.L. (Mr F. A. Reeves) replies as follows: “The cost of the modifications to T.E.AJL.*s jetprop Electras is being carried by the Lockheed Corporation. In
fact TEAL'S successful operations have produced dividends which have meant payments to the taxpayers, not from them, each year. None of the aircraft your correspondent refers to were overlooked at the time the Electra was selected. All available British and American aircraft were looked at thoroughly, but it was decided on the basis of all the information available that the Electras should be purchased.”]
