HORTICULTURAL EXHIBITION
Floral Arrangements Attract Interest
A high, symetrical arrangement of white and yellow flowers won first prize in the decorative section at the Canterbury Horticultural Society’s exhibition at the Royal Show. It was entered by Mrs R. Elcock, who also won the class for an arrangement with shades of one colour. Her entry was done in greens—grasses, leaves, berries and succulents, which made a subtle contrast with the red and black clay vase. Large massed displays were predominant in all the decorative sections. A large arrangement in red and bronze shades, presented by Mrs A. R. Powell, won the section for an arrangement for a lounge. A novel container was used by the Fendalton Garden Club for its winning entry in the garden' club section. It was a threelegged black iron pot, which sat on a piece of silver-grey schist The floral arrangement was done in blocks of colour, shading from red on one side, through bronze, to yellow on the other. Exhibits of roses, rhododendrons, azaleas and irises were among the other items. The Canterbury Alpine Garden Society displayed a garden of named alpine plants, which aroused much interest.
West of England Women’s Association.—Miss J. Hardie, secretary of the Y.W.C.A., gave a talk on her experiences as a missionary in India at a recent meeting of the West of England Women’s Association. Mrs M. Logan presided.
