FIRST ARRIVALS AT OTATARA
Impressive Practice Rounds
(New Zealand Press Association)
INVERCARGILL, Nov. 13. More than 30 of the New Zealand championship golf field arrived at Otatara at the week-end and practised on the course, as club officials put the finishing touches to their preparations for the meeting. R. C. Murray (Russley) and J. Stern (Manawatu) were among those who played today, and B. M. Silk (Wanganui) appeared briefly in the afternoon. Stem created an immediately favourable impression, and his afternoon round, on a course playing a little slowly, but in excellent order, was a 72.
S. G. Jones (Hastings) appeared to be playipg rather experimentally this afternoon, and was not concerned about his card, but Silk showed the value of his experience by scoring a 73 in spite of the gale which blew through most of the afternoon and threatened to demolish the scoreboard.
Among the professionals already in the city are E. A. Southerden (Napier), M. J. Busk (Manawatu). and F. X. Buckler (Lochiel).
