ARCHBISHOP’S VISIT

“Idea Arose In My Mind”

(N.Z. Press Association—Conynqht) <Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, Nov. 10

The Archbishop of Canterbury. Dr. Geoffrey Fisher, denied today that his historic visit to Pope John at the Vatican next month was the result of a “plot hatched by ecclesiastics” at the recent meeting in Scotland of the World Council of Churches.

“The idea arose largely in my mind,” the Archbishop said. He hoped it would restore in Christendom “the capacity to speak without being suspect.” It was generally recognised simply as the desire of one Christian leader to meet and speak to another “in personal charity and love and brotherhood.”
