Colonel Reid Retires

Lieutenant-Colonel H. McK. Reid, director of Ordnance Services at Army Headquarters for the last three and a half years, has retired alter 31 years in the Regular Army. He joined the Army as a private soldier in 1929, and was later a member of the Army’s civilian staff until commissioned in the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force in 1941. In 1957 he succeeded his brother, LieutenantColonel F. Reid, as Director >f Ordnance Services. Lieutenant-Colonel Reid served in the Pacifl during the war, ,n Fiji, and then in New Caledonia. In 1943, when the 3rd Division

went to Guadalcanal, he was given command of the advance ordnance depot, and la.er joined the staff of divisional headquarters. In 1944 he returned to New Caledonia to command the base ordnance depct. In 1947 Lieutenant-Colonel Reid was appointed to a regular commission with the rank of captain and became Deputy Assistant Quartermaster-General (Arms and Equipment) at Army Headquarters. From 1949 to 1955 he was Deputy Assistant Director of Ordnance Services, Southern Military District For two years he was also commander of the Royal Army Ordnance Corps to the New Zealand Division. Lieutenant - Colonel Reid returned to Wellington in 1955 to take up the appointment f Deputy Assistant Director of Ordnance Service at Army Headquarters. Less than two years later he became director.
