Wainoni Bus
Sir. —With the approach of Christmas and the demand for transport to the local beaches, may I point out to the Christchurch Transport Board that if the Wainoni bus were to connect with a beach it would not only ease the loads on the New Brighton buses, but help to build a better Wainoni service. Now it just goes to a dead end. My suggestion is that instead of the South Brighton bus running on the normal New Brighton route, the Wainoni bus from Snrings road continue from the Bower bridge along New Brighton road. round the river to South Brighton. This would enable people from Sockburn to go straight through to the beach and would also make access to the New Brighton shops easier for people living in the Wainoni road area. —Yours, etc.,
October 21, 1960. [The general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board (Mr J. F. Fardell) said: “The proposal would involve an additional bus and men to preserve the present frequency if the Wainoni route was extended to South Brighton, and the additional cost is not warranted to give a through .service from Sockburn. The suggested route would by-pass the shopping area and New Brighton beach and would therefore not achieve the writer’s desires. Furthermore, it is not good practice to plan routes to cross near their extremities.”]
