Burnetts Holdings

Sir, —I view with some amusement the concern of the Stock Exchange chairman about the issue of shares in Burnett Holdings. It is common knowledge that .many applications were made with the aim of making a quick capital gain. Some of those who have been disappointed in their applications openly state that they Intended to collect the premiums, and in spite of screening it is obvious from the market that some speculators were lucky. I do agree that shareholders should have been warned that priority would be given to customers, but the considerable over-subscription was unexpected and a large portion was caused entirely by speculators.—Yours, etc., V JAYEMM. November 4, 1960.
