ESCAPERS IN COURT
Borstal Training Extended (New Zealand Press Association) INVERCARGILL, November 3. Two youths who escaped from the Invercargill Borstal yesterday had their terms of training extended by a year when they appeared in the Magistrate’s and Children’s Courts respectively before Mr E. J. Crutchley, S.M., today. They were Bruce Edward Cargill, aged 18, and a 16-year-old boy whose name was not released.
The youths, who had escaped from a working party on the Borstal farm, had been seen on a West Plains farm by -the owner, Mr P. Fahey, and his two sons, the Courts were told. Senior-Sergeant C. O. Evans said the youths had been carrying socks filled with stones when they were caught by the Faheys but had made no attempt to use them. They said they had intended to kill sheep with them. The pair had admitted that they had intended to travel to the Manapouri area to lead a “Robin Hood” existence.
