12 HUSKIES FOR ANTARCTICA
Arrival In City From Greenland (New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 3. Twelve husky dogs, which have been bought in Greenland by the Antarctic division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, will arrive in Christchurch on Monday triorning. The dogs, which were bought from the Disco Bay area by Mr W. Herbert because it is recognised as having the best huskies in the world, will probably not stay in Christchurch for more than a day. The Americans Wiil fly them to McMurdo Sound as soon as possible.
The dogs are being flown from Greenland to Christchurch by the United States Military Transport Service.
A message from Mr Herbert to the Antarctic division said that the dogs would need about three weeks to recover from the journey and get used to New Zealand training methods. They were selected from 4000 dogs.
