RESTAURANT LICENCES
Regulations On Standards
(From Our Own Reporter! WELLINGTON. October 31. The Licensing Control Commission hopes to have regulations gazetted before the end of November to cover standards for the 10 restaurants which it is to license to sell beer and wines with meals. The commission’s chairman (Mr S. T. Barnett) announced this tonight. Mr Barnett said the commission examined the recently-passed Licensing Amendment Act at a special meeting today. Members agreed to prepare draft regulations setting standards for the buildings to be licensed and the facilities and services which they would provide. These standards had now largely been settled by the commission. Within the next week, the commission would invite representatives of restaurant associations to appear before it and present their views. ‘‘We will then.” added Mr Barnett, “invite applications for the minute number of licences available. They will be considered primarily on the basis of standards and facilities offered, but also with some consideration to geographic distribution.” Whether the commission held public hearings on licence applications would depend on the number received. Although there had already been one of two, these did not provide all particulars which the commission would require.
