Parking-Meter Policy
Sir, —I am sickened by cowardly people who abuse the freedom of your correspondence column for anonymous attacks. Today “Fish Of One” whines that a traffic officer greeted an over-parked driver by name and passed on without giving him a ticket. Traffic officers are fair game for the furtive informer, but a complaint made public in this wav brands every patrol officer. They are left to smart under the injustice of a vague 'allegation—possibly invented by a mischief-maker. As public servants they are restricted in reply either to allegations in the public press or attacks from publicity - seeking councillors. Failure of duty should be reported, but in the proper way. “Fish Of One” should first have reported the matter to the Traffic Superintendent. Only if he failed then to gain satisfaction should the freedom of your columns have been • invoked.— Yours, etc., ARNOLD H. FORRESTER. October 31, 1960.
