Company Incomes Up 6.5 p.c.

The incomes of companies again increased considerably in 1959-60, according to the provisional income estimates issued by the Government Statistician. The increase was 6.5 per cent., compered with 4.8 per cent, the previous year. The 1959-60 incomes were £ 131.5 m, compared with £ 123.5 m in 1958-59, and £ 117.8 m in 195758. In the three largest industry groups, the 1959-60 incomes (with 1958-59 incomes in parenthesis) were: manufacturing incomes, £44.8m (£43.9m); incomes from wholesale and retail trade £46.7m (£43.8m); and incomes from other commerce which includes banks, insurance companies, holding companies, etc., £ 19.8 m (-£ 17.9 m).
