E.M.L SALES UP 67 PER CENT.

Sales of television receivers by E.M.I. (Australia), Ltd., rose by 67 per cent for the year ended June 30 and contributed most of the net profit, the chairman, Mr J. M. Burnett, said at the annual meeting in Sydney last week. The same rate of expansion could not be expected in future years, as markets in the capital cities already serviced with television transmission were at high levels of saturation, he said. Until country transmission operated, it was not expected that the industry would experience further great stimulus. Demand for radio receivers again showed preference for small-sized transistorised receivers. Although Australian production of this type increased, many Japanese receivers were imported and sold as low as 19gns, compared with 29gns for the lowest-priced Australianmade goods.
