5in OF RAIN IN EIGHT HOURS

Deluge In Sydney

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY. October 23.

Five inches of rain in eight hours deluged Sydney early yesterday. Ten inches—or nearly four months’ normal rain—has fallen in the last week. Yesterday's rain flooded houses and shops, closed traffic and caused accidents. The Canterbury races and the trotting meeting at Wyong. 65 miles north of Sydney, were cancelled. All cricket and athletics were cancelled and the 36-hole golf champion of champions at Long Reef, about 20 miles north of Sydney, was postponed.
