NATIONAL BRASS BAND CONTEST

Judge And Assistants Chosen (New Zealand Press Association) PALMERSTON N.» October 18. The New Zealand Brass Bands’ Association has appointed Mr L. Baxter, of Brisbane, as chief judge at the annual national contest at Auckland in March. Assistant judges will be Messrs R. Farrington (Auckland) and R. F. Francis (Wanganui). Mr Baxter is conductor of the South Brisbane Federal Band, the A grade champion from 1954 to 1959. He will judge at the Ballarat contest this month. Mr Farrington was one of New Zealand’s leading cornet players for some years, and was conductor of the Auckland Watersiders’ Band. Mr Francis was a successful conductor of the Wanganui Garrison Band. He has had considerable experience as a judge.
