MR R.G. COOPER DEAD
Course Superintendent For 16 Years Mr R. G. Cooper, who for 16 years was the course superintendent at Addington racecourse, died suddenly on Monday afternoon. Mr Cooper retired from his position at Addington on March 31 last and he had recently returned from a trip to Europe. Mr Cooper held a diploma of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture. Before shifting to Chrisrtchureh, he was superintendent of reserves in Greymouth for 20 years. He was on the staff of the Botanic Gardens in Christchurch before becoming assistant course_ superintendent to Mr J. Highsted ’in 1943. A year later he succeeded Mr Highsted. Mr Cooper held a training and driving licence many years ago and raced several horses, including Rose Guy, Ocean Whispers, and Sedgemere, with success.
