LABOUR PARTY COMPLETES CANTERBURY CANDIDATES

The Labour Party has completed its list of candidates for Canterbury seats at the General Election next month by the selection of Mr J. Palmer for Selwyn and Mr G- Glassey for Ashburton Both appointments were announced yesterday. Mr Palmer has been secretary of the Christchurch Labour Representation Committee tor tour years and is chairman of the Christchurch Transport Board. He is chairman of the Burwood School Committee, a member of the Papanui High School board of governors, and an executive member of the Canterbury School Committees’ Association.

He is a former chairman of the Avon inter-branch council of the Labour Party. Mr Glassey is contesting Ashburton for the third time. He stood against the sitting National member, Mr R. G. Gerard, In 1954. and again three years ago. Aged 59. Mr Glassey is a seed certification assistant with the Department of Agriculture. He is a member of the Ashburton Borough Council, the Ashburton Power Board. Tinwald Domain Board, and Tinwald Memorial Hall Committee. He is chairmar of the Ashburton Labour Representation Committee, and chairman of the Mid-Canterbury School Committees’ Association.
