MR HOLYOAKE’S CAMPAIGN
Opening Speech At Palmerston North
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, October 18.
The National Party’s General Election campaign will be opened by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Holyoake) in Palmerston North on Tuesday. November 1.
This will be the first time for many years that the National Party’s campaign has been opened in the North Island, and it is also thought to be the first time a major political party has opened an election campaign in Palmerston North.
The National Party has opened its recent' campaign in the South Island because its former leaders, Sir Sidney Holland, and before him. Mr Adam Hamilton, were South Islanders.,
In 1957, Mr Holyoake kept to Sir Sidney Holland’s programme and opened in Christchurch because he took over the party leadership shortly before the election.
