NEW TESTING STATION
Cranford Street Plans The plans for the City Council’s second vehicle-testing station at Cranford street envisaged one of the most modern stations of its type in New Zealand, said the traffic superintenden. (Mr G. P. Kellar) yesterday. Tenders have not been called yet but already Mr Kellar has been authorised to arrange for the purchase of equipment Mr Kellar said the equipment would include hydraulic lifts for vehicles and under-floor lighting for undercarriage inspection such as suspension gear. “At present I am waiting for the exact dimensions of the equipment to be installed so that the tenderers can be advised of the cavities to be left in the floor. The situation of the station would be designed to allow for the minimum interference with other traffic.” he said. Vehicles to be tested will enter by Mcßratneys road which should not cause any inconvenience. By driving on to Cranford street extension, motorists will have an unobstructed view of traffic in both directions, he said.
