AUSTRALIAN WOMEN
Preparation For Tasman Cup Members of the Australian women’s golf team arrived in Christchurch yesterday morning to begin preparation for their match against New Zealand on Saturday for the Tasman Cup. At present the cup, which is played for every two years between leading women golfers of the two countries, is held by Australia. Yesterday morning, the team practised at Shirley, where the contest will be held. The New Zealand team also gathered in Christchurch yesterday and practised at the course. Some players were still practising in the afternoon, although light rain fell. The Australian team comprises Mesdames M. Ridgway (nonplaying captain and manager), M. Dawson, J. D. Fisher, Misses P. Borthwick, B. Cheney, G. Small and M. Masters. Arriving in New Zealand on September 25, the team toured Otago and Southland before taking part in the New Zealand women’s championships at Paraparaumu from October 7 to October 12. It will return to Sydney by air on Sunday. Women’s Tournament At Tai Tapu The Canterbury District Ladies’ Golf Association's silver salver was won by Mrs B. -Mclntosh at the annual bronze tournament, held at Tai Tapu. Results were:— 38-Hole Gross. —Mrs B. Mclntosh (Little River), 185; runner-up, Mrs D. Mason (Little River), 186. 36-Hole Net.—Mrs G. Shipley (Greendale), 77 and 68—145. Morning Net.—Mrs H. E.
