FIELD FOR CAULFIELD
Waipari Has Good Draw (N-Z. Press Association —Copyright) MELBOURNE, Oct. 13. The Caulfield Cup field was reduced to 24 starters and three emergencies after final acceptances were taken this afternoon. Thirty-five horses accepted, but eight were balloted out.
The eight balloted out were Jack's Count, Sparkling Blue, Rising Rocket, Joss Sticks. St. Pierre, High Veneer, Big Fancy and Comic Scout. The three emergencies in order are Teastream, Orinoco and Teugku. They did. not draw barrier positions. The lucky wrinner in the cup is Gold Rebel, which made up the 24 when Woambra was scratched before acceptance time. He was one of three four-year-olds left in. The four scratchings today were the 1958 Caulfield Cup winner Sir Blink, W’hich pulled up lame after a. gallop. Grand Garry, Chatoul 5 and Woambra. The favourite, Waipari, was very lucky in the barrier draw when he got No. 3. The second favourite. Sparkler, also drew well at No. 5. Both Waipari and l Sparkler firmed in the beteing after the draw. Another New Zealand horse. Aircraft, drew No. 1. The unlucky horse was Smokey Jane, with the extreme outside, No. 24. Jack Purtel said after the draw that he would ride Gold Rebel. Purtell waited for the draw before choosing from Gold Rebel, Webster and Mac. Field The cup is timed for 5 p.m. New Zealand time and the field is:— CAULFIELD CUP, of £12,000 and £350 gold cup; one mile and a half. —Mac (16) 9-2; Webster (6) 9-1; Dhaulargiri (7) G.
