The standard of performance ] was relatively high compared with ] last year, but several participants had the disappointment of break- . ing a record which could not be ] recognised because of wind assistance. W. Slinn showed great versa- • tility in winning the senior championship. He won the mile, the ; 880, the 440, came second in the : 220 and long jump and third in * the hop, step and jump. The intermediate boys’ section was very closely contested. B. < Welker just beat J. Winder by one i point. One particularly fine dis- < play was given by G. Brawn when he won the 120 yards ■ hurdles in 17.3 sec, thus lowering j the previous record by .ssec. E. Richards had a clear win by ' 10 points in the junior boys’ championship. G. Gowans lowered the 880 yards walk in no uncerain ( fashion by reducing it from 4min ’ 27sec to 4min 2.3 sec. This record was set in a preliminary event. ! On point gave A.
