YOUTH CHARGED WITH MURDER
Inmate In Mental Hospital (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 11. Donald Bruce Watson, aged 19, a tannery worker, who has been detained in the Auckland Psychiatric Hospital since his arrest after the shooting of three people in their home in Onehunga on September 20, was today called in the Magistrate’s Court at Auckland before Mr M. C Astley, S.M., charged with the murder of his brother, Thomas William Watson. The police prosecutor (Mr J. A. McCarthy) told the Magistrate that Watson would not be appearing—he was still being detained in an institution—and the police in the meantime were seeking a remand for a fortnight. . Mr McCarthy said it was not known at this stage when the Lower Court hearing of the charge would proceed or in what
condition Watson would be. Mr J. S. Angland, who represented Watson, consented to the remand which was granted. Watson’s 70-year-old grandmother, Mrs Mary Wren was also , killed in the Onehunga shootings, ! and his mother, Mrs Dallas Joyce Watson, was injured and taken ; to hospital.
