Eight Hurt When Cars Collide
(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, October 10.
Eight persons were injured, six seriously, when two cars were involved in a head-on collision at the junction of the Main North road and Seadown road about 9.30 p.m. on Sunday. The injured were taken by St. John ambulance to the Timaru Public Hospital. The driver of one vehicle, in which David Charles Marshall, aged 19, a shop assistant, of Orari, was a passenger, was Barry Francis George Stewart, aged 20, a mechanic, of School road, Orari. Their condition and that of the other injured was reported by the hospital authorities today as follows: Barry Stewart: Concussion and minor lacerations; condition satisfactory. David Marshall: Injured leg; condition satisfactory. Alan Charles Cassidy, a tractor driver of Geraldine: Fractured ribs, scalp ’lacerations, concussion: condition satisfactory. Barbara Patricia Cassidy, wife of Alan Cassidy: Slight concussion; condition good Sharon Cassidy, aged 12: Lacerations to both knees; condition satisfactory. Jeanine Cassidy, aged seven: Observation for possible internal injuries; condition satisfactory. Mona Isabel Neale, married, 14 Richell street, Belfast: Facial and scalp lacerations, injury to leg; condition satisfactory. Keith Victor Neale, same address: Facial lacerations; condition good. Both cars were extensively damaged.
