Obituary MR A. J. EMPSON

The death has occurred of Mr Albert Jack Empson, a wellknown Christchurch publican. Aged 68, Mr Empson was for six years president of the Licensed Victuallers’ Association and a life member. In addition he had been president of the Canterbury Boxing Association, and in 1947 president of the Marist Rugby Football club. Canterbury boxers cofnpete each year for a shield perpetuating the memory of Mr Empson’s services to the boxing association. During World War 11, he was one of those responsible for the organisation of the Union Jack Club, and for many years he. was organiser of the Labour Representation Council’s Labour Day picnics. On several occasions Mr Empson was compere at Sunday night charity concerts in Christchurch He is survived by his wife and one daughter.
