DR. NELSON CHAPPEL
Visit To N.Z. This Mouth
The general secretary of the World Council of Christian Education and Sunday School Association (Dr. Nelson Cthappel) will pay a brief visit to New Zealand at the end of this month after a tour of several African countries and Australia. In Christchurch Dr. Chappel will have special meetings and discussions with the standing committee of the National Council of Churches Youth Committee. After his graduation from the Universities of Toronto and Alberta, Dr. Chappel was ordained as a minister of the United Church of Canada after which he was engaged in post-graduate studies. His first pastorate was at Grand Prairie in Alberta, the farthest north agricultural settlement in Canada, where he spent more than five years. Later he served as the minister of Crescent Heights United Church in Calgary, Alberta, and of Westminster Church, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. For more than four years he served as a chaplain of the Canadian Air Force during World W’ar n and before going overseas was chaplain at the Central Navigation , School at Rivers, Manitoba. In 1945 be took up the position of secretary of the Religious Education Council of Canada which became the Department of Christian Education of the Canadian Council of Churches. Since 1953 he has been general secretary of W.C.C.E.S.S.A. with headquarters in New York, and during this period he has visited 55 countries around the world and has served as a specdal consultant at conferences on the preparation of indigenous Sunday school curriculum materials in India, in Africa and in th* West Indies.
Christ’s College Old Boys
A new branch of the association had been formed in Victoria with its headquarters at Melbourne, the president of the Christ’s College Old Boys’ Association (Mr T. C. Lowry) told the annual meeting. Mr Lowry said he had visited branches In the North Island and could report that in Hawke’s Bay and Hamilton the branches were very strong. He said the membership of the association was now 2965, including 935 life members. A fund had been established for the 125th anniversary of the school and although only in 'its second year of operation was now solidly established.
Messrs L. D. Cotterill and H. E. Solomon were elected honorary life members. Other officers elected were: president, Mr A. I. Cottrell; president-elect, Mr N. L. Watson; past president, Mr T. C.
