Kenu Has Ability For Sprint At Motukarara

Kenu, a winner at Ashburton last week, could be the pick of a fairly weak field in the Mount Herbert Handicap, a sprint race at the Banks Peninsula Trotting Club’s annual meeting Jit Motukarara today; Kenu has not been an easy horse to keep sound, but he seems aH right at present. He has plenty of ability and with reasonable Jack he should win again today.

Insolent was a dismal failure when a surprise second favourite at Methven recently. He pulled very hard and that could have accounted for his poor finishing run. He showed speed at times last season and if allowed to make his own rules in front, he will be hard to head. Croughton Belle is best known as a sprinter and she could surprise. She finished eighth over 12 furlongs at Ashburton last week, after a fourth in her only other start this season. Tryst, which will be making a fresh start, Dark Wonder, Gay Widow, and Jimmy Grattan are all capable of adding interest to the finish.

The double will be run on the Banks Peninsula Handicap and the Paparua Handicap. Stormont, Young Dieman and Sally Boy are a likely trio for the first leg, while Highland Custom, Schnapps, and Heathmount should do best in the second leg. Unsettled weather is forecast for today, but heavy rain will be necessary to affect the track, which should be in good order.
