Roller Skating WORLD SPEED CHAMPIONS
Plans To Settle In Christchurch The English world amateur speed roller skating recordholders. Mr Lee. Woodlev and Mrs Woodley, plan to settle in Christchurch after touring New Zealand with the European roller skating party, according to an official of the Christchurch Amateur RqUer Skating Club (Mr A. Manning'. A British amateur representetive. Les. Woodley recently made a special attempt on the world speed records and was successful in claiming records for all distances up to » miles. In the mile, his best performance, he cut lOsec from the world record to make the new figure 2m in Mrs Woodley, also a British representative, at the same time became the first woman in the world to beat officially three minutes for the mile. She broke the original world record for the distance by sese to set a new record of 2mm 46aec. A boost should be received by the Canterbury skating season by the return of lan Hughes, who is at present on his way back to Christchurch.
