SALES TAX ON TRUCKS

Minister Thanked For Reduction (New Zealand Press Association) GREYMOUTH, October. 7. Although transport operators were disappointed that the Government did not remove sales tax from commercial trucks, and retains a fiscal petrol tax, he considered the New Zealand Road Transport Alliance should acknowledge the action of the Minister of Finance, Mr Nordmeyer, in reducing sales tax a little and by removing the exitra petrol tax. This opinion was advanced at today’s session of the alliance’s annual conference in ■ Greymouth by the president, Mr D. D. Merritt. of Nelson. He said he hoped the coming year would see both taxes abolished. “We honoured our promise and reduced oar charges, commensurate with each reduction in petred tax, except the last, which coincided with the hearing before the Arbitration Court of the Drivers' Union’s claims for incorporation of the general wages order for increased wages,” Mr Merritt told the 230 delegates.
