NEW £80,000 WING FOR TECHNICAL COLLEGE
It was planned to begin work on the new science wing of the Christchurch Technical College early next year, the headmaster <Mr D. W Lyall) said last night The wing will cost about £BO.OOO ,h Four classrooms, four laboratories and one library will be "X,.,housed in the wing, which will < be an extension of the Fife street building towards Moorhouse ave--1 -nue. The classrooms will accommodate 30 pupils each The laboratories are for physics, chemistry, biology and general science, and hydraulics and the testing of the strength of materials. The sum of £23.759 has also been approved by the Education /. Department for alterations to the former Andrews and Beaven
building in Madras street, tn serve as a welding workshop, a sheet metal workshop and a plumbing workshop tor the Christchurch Technical College, it was reported last evening to a meeting of the board of managers of the college.
The building was acquired two years ago by the Education Department It is planned to put in flooring, windows, doors and an Inside staircase. The finished building will provide the Technical College with a two-storey building for the three'workshops The present plumbing building stands in the way of the new science block planned for the college.
