TRADE BALANCE OF AUSTRALIA
£23.2m Deficit Las Month
(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) CANBERRA, Oct. 7. Australia, in September had an adverse trade balance of £ 23.2 m. Imports amounted to £ 88.5 m, tyhile exports were £ 65.3 m. Figures issued today by the Commonwealth Statistician revealed that Australia's trade is continuing the unfavourable trend recorded in the first two months of the current financial year. Surplus This Year In September last year Australia had a favourable balance of £5.3m. Since the beginning of this financial year exports have trailed imports by £B3m. According to the figures, imports in September were about £l6m less than in August. It was indicated that the peak caused by the virtual abolition of import restrictions earlier this year may have been reached. However, in the first three months, exports have shown a gradual decline from £67m in July to £6sm in September.
