SEVENTY-FIFTH ANNIVERSARY
West Lyttelton Church
St. Saviour’s Church, West Lyttelton, will celebrate its seventyfifth anniversary on October 29. West Lyttelton was constituted a parochial district on October 22, 1885, and a week later the church was consecrated. The parish was formed as the result of an endowment by the Rev. B. W. Dudley, the first vicar of Holy Trinity, Lyttelton. The present vicarage was built in 1896, at a cost of £620, and the Sunday School was completed in 1903. The original parochial district
comprised St. Saviour’s only, but now includes St. Cuthbert’s, Governor's Bay, St Peter’s, Tedding-
ton, and St. Andrew’s. Diamond Harbour. At one time, St. Mary’s, Heathcote, came within the parish, but is now Included in Sumner. The parish has had nine vicars, the present fine being the Rev. J. J. Merton.
