Rugby BROKE THUMB IN SOUTH AFRICA
Nesbit Discovers Injury (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, Oct. 3. More than four weeks after the accident, the AU Black five-eighths. S. R. Nesbit, of Auckland, has discovered that he has a broken thumb. The injury will keep him from work for at least four weeks, and the thumb may need to be broken again for resetting. Nesbit said today that while playing for the South African Barbarians against Natal on September 1, two days before the last match of the AU Blacks’ tour, he put out a hand to ward off a tackler, his outstretched thumb bent back painfully. “The thumb went again in the match with Canterbury last Wednesday." Nesbit said. "I knew then that I would have to do something about It.”
He reported to the casualty department at the Auckland Hospital today, and an X-ray examination showed a fracture in the big bone at the base of the thumb. It also showed that the bone had begun to knit the wrong way.
