NEW HARBOUR AT BLUFF

The new Bluff harbour will be officially opened on December 3 by the Governor-General (Lord CobbamL It is also hoped the Chief at Naval Staff (ReerAdmiral P. Phipps) will attend tile opening. .. The opening has been chosen < to take ptace on a Saturday so , that people from all over Southland and Otago can attend, and it is expected that about 30,000 will visit the pert for the occasion. I t is hoped that members of the Cabinet, high Government officers and ■■ other distinguished visitors ) will be present. The opening day has been delayed until at least one of the big cargo sheds on the new wharves is finished so that, if it is * faqtbve crowd can be aocommotiatad inside. No. 1 shed occupies more than 30.000 square feet, and three other sheds have the foundations laid. It is expected that the time of opening will be 1.45 p.m. and that ships will then come up the channel to the new berthage for the occasion. The volume of meat exports for Bluff is rising steadily, and Ulis season about 2.46 million freight carcases will be handled at the old port This is another meat shipment record.
