Tribal Gathering In Gisborne (New Zeaiana Press Association) GISBORNE, Oct S. Representatives of Maori tribes from all parts of New Zealand are gathering in Gisborne to participate in traditional mourning ceremonies after the death of Mrs Hinehou Tureia, chieftalness of the tribes of the Tairawhlti district. Mrs Tureia died in Gisborne last evening. Born at Whakato, Manutuke, Mrs Tureia, aged 63, was a daughter of Heta Te Kaan a Taikirau and Kakukoura Hoone. She was a direct descendant of Hininl te Kari. a paramount chief who was one of the noted figures in the early history of the district.

In the Maori hierarchy, Mrs Tureia ranked with such noted personalities as Lady Carroll and Lady Axihi Ngata. ,
