New Competition Announced
A wallpaper design competidon, the second of a series of national design competitions linking art and industry, has been announced by the chairman of the Festival of Wellington Arts Committee (Dr. W B Sutch).
The objective of this competition is to provide encouragement for New Zealand artists and designers and to introduce to New Zealand. In addition to established overseas patterns, wallpapers of a distinctive style suitable for the home of today The aim is to find new designs of appeal to home-makers everywhere." said Dr. Sutch. "This means that designs entered are not necessarily restricted to a New Zealand motif The judges will base their decisions on the suitability of the design for wallpaper reproduction. artistic merit, and originality of approach." Prize* have been given by Ashley Wallpapers. Ltd., the only wallpaper manufacturing company in the Southern Hemisphere. The first prize will be 150 guineas, second 75 guineas, and third 50 guineas. There will be five additional prizes of 25 guineas each.
