TOUR BY ELLA FITZGERALD

Christchurch Unlikely To Be Included

Lack of a large theatre would probably mean that Ella Fitzgerald would not visit Christchuroh when she came to New Zealand in December, said the general manager of Miller Associates (Mr G. Dent). Mr Dent said that Ella Fitzgerald would be the highest paid entertainer to come to New Zealand. The figure would be “around £3OOO for a performance.”

“We would need seating for about 2000 persons,” said Mr Dent. “We have: considered an open air performance, but it seems unlikely that a suitable place could be obtained.’’ Mr Dent said his company also signed a contract yesterday arranging a tour by Sara Vaughn and Dizzy Gillespie. They would arrive at Christchurch on October 30, and perform at Wellington and Auckland.
