RESEARCHON WOOL
Fellowships To Be Awarded
A further step in the direction of the establishment of New Zealand's own wool research organisation will be taken soon by the Wool Board. The chairman of the board, Mr J. Acland. said in Christchurch that the board
would soon be calling applications for up to three fellowships for post-graduate research in wool science.
These fellowships are intended' to encourage scientists to enter fields of research relating to the chemical, physical, and biological aspects of wool and wool fibres. The holder of a fellowship will be able to undertake research at an overseas institution or university study towards a doctorate. The fellowships are tenable for three years, and holders will be required at the end of that period to return to New Zealand to work for the Wool Research Organisation or for some other organisation approved by the Wool Board for two years. The board and the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research have both agreed to recommend to the Government the establishment of a wool research organisation in New Zealand, which it has been suggested should be jointly financed by the woolgrowers and the Government. In proceeding to call applications for the fellowships the board is acting pending the formation of the organisation and on behalf of it.
