Heavy Floods In West Of England

October 1. 1 Homes were wrecked, train i lines and roads blocked, people > evacuated and scores of animals , drowned by floods in the west of » England yesterday. British news- , papers reported the floods were said, to be the worst in the West Country memory. Water rose after a day of havoc caused by a 12-hour torrential downpour. Villages were swamped and Exeter, in Devon, - was surrounded by a vast lake. Floods were reaching disaster proportions when the rain eased.
