BEATEN UP BY YOUTHS

Attack Made On MP.’s Son (New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 3. An 18-year-old youth was dragged from his car and beaten up by three youths near the corner of Asquith avenue and Western Springs road shortly after 11 o’clock last night. He is Barry Charles Freer, of 194 Halsey drive. Mount Albert, son of Mr W. W. Freer, member of Parliament for Mount Albert. He lives with his parents. The youths stepped in front of his car. as he was driving up Asquith avenue on a message for his father. He stopped to avoid hitting them. They immediately attacked him, pulling him clear of the vehicle and punching him heavily about the head. As he staggered clear the youths jumped into the car and drove off through Fowldes park, where they abandoned the vehicle. Barry made*' his way. up the street and went into the home of Mr and Mrs M. Walker, of 174 Asquith avenue. “He was badly shaken and his head, shirt and coat were covered with blood,” Mrs Walker said later.

A police patrol car picked up Barry from Mr Walker’s house and took him to his home. He had a number of bad bruises and cuts.

Police patrols were still searching for the assailants early this morning.
