TROTTING Resistor In Line For Success At Ashburton

Resistor, which has had two wins and two second platings from four starts this season, looks set to extend her record in the Mount Somers Handicap, the main race for trotters at the Ashburton Trotting Club’s spring meeting today.

Resistor requires a win to be eligible for the £BOO Frey berg Handicap at Forbury Park next Saturday. She will not be set an easy task from 36 yards, but she is racing so generously at present that her prospects must be highly rated.

Reprimand was a fast-finishing fifth in the race won by Resistor ait New Brighton on September 17. Better served’ in the running today, he could be much harder to beat Kennoway made a fresh start at Meth ven last week and trotted a bold race tor fourth. He should be improved this week and looks well enough placed on the front to be given a chance. He will be bracketed with Kaboon, a capable trotter on his day. is usually most reliable and if given a run to the final furlong, she should outsprint most of the others on the front.

Spinster Scott, a stylish winner at New Brighton on September 17, appears to be more solid this season and she could again be prominent. Mighty Hanover, Tony's® Pride, Cat’s Luck, and Estelle are handicapped horses expected to show to advantage.

Strong Bracket The bracket of Lileas and Medium Blue will probably start a firm favourite for the Elgin Handicap. Lileas was unlucky at Methven last week, where she finished fast for fourth in the Avonmore Handicap. She lost a good position racing to the straight and she was late working clear. She is close to her best and should just about win. Medium Blue has finished third and fifth in two appearances this reason. He came home solidly from well beck for fifth at Methven last week. With a more favourable run, he could be harder to beet today. Gay Widow was a little disappointing at Meth ven after finishing second to Highland Custom at New Brighton a week earlier. Both should do well over this middle distance.
