Australia And New Zealand
Sir,—l oppose E. A. F. Wilding's arguments for closer ties with Australia. New Zealand has achieved racial harmony witbodt resorting to the genocidal indifference accorded the Australian aborigine. We have a Maori Cabinet Minister; Australia’s aborigines are not even allowed to vote. She has much to leaiti from us in this respect. If Australia is soon to “become an importer of food” let us barter oifr surplus butter, beet, and mutum for her industrial goods. Businesslike trade and defence agreements could bolster our economy without reducing us to the level of a mere economic satellite. Maori culture has been honoured artd preserved so that New Zealand has won leadership in politics! tolerance in the eyes of the peoples of Asia.—Yours, etc.. M. S. STARKY., Amberley, September 27, 1960. * Unconscious For 31 'Years.—A Polish migrant died in hospital today three years and a half after becoming unconscious in a motor accident in April. 1957. Konstenty Bajdzuik. aged 44. has iaih since in Melbourne’s Hospital with eyes open but unaware.—Melbourne, September
