ZOO CARPENTER FOR SYDNEY
Study Of New Cage Designs
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 29. A gesture by the director of Taronga Park, Sydney (Sir Edward Hallstrom) has enabled the Wellington zoo carpenter, Mr W. Waters, to make a three-week visit, with all expenses paid, to the Sidney zoo to study the. latest designs in animal enclosures. Mr Waters, who sails in the Wanganella tomorrow, will accompany the nine New Zealand birds being shipped to Sydney as part of an exchange system. He will return to Wellington on October 25 with animals given by the Sydney Zoo. At Taronga Park, Mr Waters will study new safety devices with self-locking cage catches which will soon be used at Wellington. "Concrete trees” are also an attractive feature in the cages at Taronga Park and wall murals are made of coloured concrete.
